Matt Mullenweg: “I want Wordpress shirts to be what people wear to clubs”

This past weekend Utah hosted its first ever Wordcamp. It was an opportunity for several hundred passionate Wordpress users to get together and fawn over the undeniably attractive… details of the upcoming 2.7 release. Matt Mullenweg, co-founder of Automattic (the company behind Wordpress) keynoted the event and he said some very interesting things regarding t-shirts toward the end of his talk. First, he praised the design of the Wordcamp Philippines series of shirts (pictured and modeled below by Laarni contrasted with the humdrum Wordcamp Utah shirt). And then he said that he wanted Wordpress to be the types of tees that you’d “wear out clubbing”.

Now I’ve taken a gander at the Wordpress store. I’m pleased to say that Wordpress doesn’t fall into the LinkedIn delusions of tee grandeur – the community behind Wordpress is passionate and hungers to spread the brand (hell, I’m a user). However, would you wear a plain, unadorned ‘W’ across your chest into your local bump-n-grind? Unless its operated by beatnicks methinks there may be a way to go before that happens (if ever).
