Yes, International T-Shirt Day is coming up June 21st. Yes, the only one’s that really seem to care and/or promote it are those hoping to sell you something.
Not that its all bad. Certainly there are holidays that aspire to honor worse pursuits. International Mustache Day, for one. Squirrel Appreciation Day, for another.
But for those of us that blog about t-shirts week in and week out International T-Shirt Day is a bit shrug worthy. Just like you shouldn’t need Valentines to shame you into showing affection for your special someone you shouldn’t need a tee shirt holiday to share your love for the apparel. Come rain, shine, the sleet of autumn or the chill of winter tee bloggers are promoting the most versatile, customizable, and plentiful form of fashion the world has ever seen (even if we’re too manly to refer to it as ‘fashion’). To us, everyday is ‘T-Shirt Day’.
There will be some artificially induced merriment on June 21st. And long after the slight bump in sales have disappeared and other’s have forgotten the blog posts marking the “event” I’ll still be here sharing great geek t-shirts – regardless of what day it is.
