Apple Derivatives Aren’t Dead Yet: iPwn Tee

Pure Pwnage is a Canadian mockumentary based on Jeremy and his quest to be a pro gamer. Of course, central to any pro gamer is the ability to pwn, or completely decimate opponents, preferably in humiliating ways. Pure Pwnage’s store has a number of great items reflecting that including the ‘iPwn’ tshirt.

It’s available for $16.99 from the n00bstore. Online smackdown is extra. Props to TCritic for the find.

Geek Ties: Space Invaders and Graphing Paper

So why would I be covering ties on a tshirt review site? Well, as hard as it might be to believe, a well coiffed geek can’t wear tees all the time. And while we can’t always wear our favorite apparel there’s no reason we can’t geek up even the most formal attire.

First up is Computer Gear’s Engineering Graph Silk Tie (found via Fashionably Geek). It’ll cost $30 for the luxury of graphing an exponential equation on what is otherwise only useful as a napkin substitute.

Second up, in time for its 30th anniversary, is the ‘Space Intruders’ tie from Amazon.com (I’m guessing its ‘Space Intruders’ instead of ‘Space Invaders’ because of some kind of licensing [or lack thereof] nonsense). To get this game on your wallet will suffer a $24.95 setback.

8 Bit Investigation Shirt

This TShirt from Threadless is for fans of CBS’s upcoming new drama - CSI - Vice City. While getting David Caruso to guest star in the pilot was a bit tough (the avatars kept polling in the focus groups as more believable than the original) the show has been green lighted. Every week we can expect the kind of pulse pounding adrenaline-fueled romp that is criminal forensics. The first part of season one has a story arc involving Mario and an increasingly troublesome mushroom addition. From there we shift into some heartfelt explorations of Jack’s attempts to rebuild his life after plasmids nearly destroyed everything.

Classic NES Controller TShirt

NES Exploded Controller TShirtSpeaking of exploded views what should we have but an exploded view of quite possibly the greatest controller of all time! Drawn to scale and featuring every nuance from start/select switches to the rubber pads this is a wearable tribute to classic Nintendo gaming goodness. The ‘model no. NES-004′ is available from huzzah apparel. It may cost a bit more than the standard tshirt ($25) but for this level of geek detail and sophistication it is worth it.

Tetris Blueprint TShirt

Tetris Blueprint TeeIf you’ve been a long time militant geek reader you know that I have a soft spot for those damn geometrical blocks. Of course nostalgia is easy when there’s cool tshirts like this out there to keep it alive.

Called ‘The Blueprint’ it comes by way of HuzzahGoods.com. At $25 its a bit steep - until you divide the price by the numbers of hours spent trying to conquer the game. At that point the value of a proper game homage falls close to zero.

Tetris Taught Me How to Pack

Tetris Pack TShirtMarch is almost here and, for many geeks, that means conference season. Technologists the country over will be preparing a few days of intellectual vacation under the guise of continuing education. For inspiration in packing for those trips one needs to look no further than the ‘I Hate Packing’ tee from Adam White on Threadless. It’s got everybody’s lovable geometric shapes tumbling tetris-style into an awaiting suitcase. Mui Bein.

‘I Hate Packing’ available from Threadless.com for $15. You can either use the affiliate link to help keep the Militant Geek in wearable cotton or the non-affiliate link if that’s the way you swing.

XBox Red Ring of Death TShirt

XBox Red Ring of Death TShirtAs the people from Errorwear correctly point out:

Long ago the video game consoles were the refuge of gamers who didn’t want to deal with troublesome computers. Calibrating joysticks, installing new drivers, lowering the video options… EFF THAT, I’m just going to play Rad Racer. Well no longer, as the line blurs and Xbox 360s can crash. FOREVER.

Thankfully, they’ve created a shirt that you can wear when your Xbox 360 does die. Display to the world what kind of suffering you’re going through - after all, when it comes to mourning a 360, white is the new black. Or maybe you’re a Wii owner just rubbing it in. Whatever. $15.49.

In Memorandum: Companion Cube

Companion Cube Gee TeePortal, an inclusion in Valve Software’s Orange Box game pack, should have been forgettable. With the second installment of Half-Life 2’s episodic content and a Team Fortress sequel ten years in the making Portal should have been a bit of shovelware. Instead, the first game to birth the genre ‘action-puzzler’ was better than it ever had rights to be - even ending up included as #2 on GameSpy’s best games of 2007 list. What’s more it shares a distinction that few games enjoy: fully transcending from game-land into the larger geekdom pop culture.

That’s why even non-games can appreciate this companion cube Tshirt direct from the Valve store. *sniff* On the front is a tribute to the precious inanimate object *hiccup*. On the back is a scrawled poetic eulogy. It’s almost as tender as Portal’s…. *sob* final theme song. Just watch this video while I go take this eyelash out of both eyes.
