Astronauts Heart Aliens Tee

Intergalactic FriendsI want to make one thing very clear: if, at some future date, grainy home footage of me bawling my eyes out while watching ET should ever surface I have a very good reason. You see, I had salt from the popcorn on my hands. During that whole “look, they’re riding their bicycles through the air” bit I had rubbed my eyes in boredom. I ended up getting salt in my eyes and, by golly, it stung like Jimmy Wales’ ex. And just because it happened yesterday doesn’t mean I’m some emotional man-child stuck in a state of arrested development - I’m just big boned.

Intergalactic Friends is from Team Space Pirate for $24.99. Found via the excellent TRoundup.com.

If Space is a’Rocking, Keep the Astronauts Flocking… Shirt

Astronaut Band TShirtOk, so maybe this shirt is actually entitled ‘Music Connects Us Through Space’ but if you’re going to have a mouthful of jargon as a title might as well make it fun, right? Oh well, verbose name or not, this design featured on uneetee is a rocketride to awesome for a limited time. Like a launch, the countdown is on for how long you can get this awesome geek shirt. The way uneetee works is that every day one shirt is featured for $10 and then at 12:00am PST a new shirt is featured. At the time of this writing there is roughly 14 hours left on this celestial delight.

Congrats to designer yoshi andrian amtha for his good work on this tee. Hat tip to Shirts On Sale for the heads up.

Beautiful Shuttle Shirt

Launch Shuttle TShirtI came across Shirt Empire’s ‘The Launch’ a few months ago but never got around to sharing the awesome find. Turns out my negligence is your gain! The shirt, which was $18 this summer is now an extremely attractive $10.

Sure, the Shuttle - once the darling of manned space flight - is beyond due for replacement. But 25+ years in its still lugging the dreams of social misanthropes, science obsessives, and Trekkies to near earth orbit. Now if only Nasa’s manned program was as elegant as this shirt we wouldn’t be so bitter.

A Space Shirt for the Nasa Nerd in You

Finders Keepers Nasa Geek T There have been lots of space related designs that have recently come across the desk in Militant Geek HQ (desk in the way that clutter randomly scattered across an empty spare bedroom constitutes a ‘desk’). But this one is too great not to mention. This lovely shirt from Busted Tees is entitled “Finders Keepers”. It hearkens back to the glory days when the US was still kicking technological ass. At least today we still have the same childlike approach to foreign diplomacy. It is available for a very reasonable $15.99 and there still appears to be plenty in stock.

When Geeks Fall In Love

Before and After Image of NowakThis being February with all its cupids and hearts and last second guilty consumption we thought it would be appropriate to bring you a geek themed love story. And this morning the ‘heroes’ of our esteemed space agency, NASA, came though in ‘Sid-and-Nancy’ style.

U.S. Navy Captain Lisa Nowak is a married flight engineer with three kids. She flew the Space Shuttle Discovery in 2006. And she burned with a passion for a fellow astronaut, Bill Oefelein, that not even an unruptured underbelly of thermal tile could deny. She made the drive from Houstin to Orlando to confront a rival love interest. Like any true geek, there was technical innovation involved. From the MonstersAndCritics story:

Police allege Nowak drove 950 miles from Houston to Orlando — wearing adult diapers so she would not have to stop to urinate — and disguised herself in a dark wig, glasses and trench coat to confront her rival, Colleen Shipman, who according to media reports is a captain in the U.S. Air Force.

In her statement to police, Nowak said she did not intend to physically harm Shipman but ‘only wanted to scare Ms. Shipman into talking with her.’

On her person was pepper spray, a steel mallet, bb gun, folding knife with 4-inch blade, rubber tubing, and trash bags. That was either going to be some discussion or they were going to recreate the hacking heroics of Apollo 13.

Remember, when you smell adult diapers you’re smelling the scent of love in the air.
