R2D2 Cutaway TShirt

When it comes to geek memes few things can surpass Star Wars (despite Lucas’s best efforts to kill the franchise with episodes 1-3). A mainstay in the pantheon of lovable science fiction characters is R2-D2, the droid that could. Artist Reece Ward here shows us a cutaway of just what is in our favorite bleepin’ hero - apparently a trike, Dalek, etc.

You can buy this shirt from RedBubble.com for $23.94. Hat tip goes to Geekologie for spotting this gem.

The Best Robot Tee of All Time

As seen on Boing Boing comes this incredible, sensational, too - much - goodness - on - one - front tshirt. Depicting silhouettes of science fiction’s most iconic robots ChopShopStore’s WeRobot is a geek tour-de-force. Available for $25.

Robots Suck at Breakdancing; We have TShirt Proof

Robot vs Ape Breakdancing TeeWhat you see here is either a promo still from “You’ve Been Served 3: We’re Really Phoning It In Now” or a killer tshirt from Go Ape Shirts. As you can see when it comes to irrational flopping about on a cardboard stage the primates still pwn bee-atches. No comment on what happens when both contestants are asked to do the robot.

This design is available from Go Ape Shirts for $18. First seen on Fashionably Geek.

A Few Good Men… Errrr… Robots

A Few Good Robot Men TshirtFirst off, this is a fantastic TShirt from Allmightys, a Berlin based printing shop that uses only American Apparel (just to prove that tees are truly a global phenom). It sells for 21 euros.

All that shop stuff is great but I wanted to get to the second part: of those robots shown how many can you identify? It’s one point for every correct answer. Test your knowledge of geekdom and revel in this completely arbitrary point system:

  • 0 points - Sorry friend, I believe you have us confused with another site.
  • 1-3 points - Congratulations! You’re a wannabe who’s only geek cred comes from pop culture.
  • 4-5 points - The force is strong in this one.
  • 6 points - When geeks inherit the earth you will be sought out as a sage for your historical depth.

How did you score?

Transformers - the Duel Shirt

Transformers - Duel ShirtI have to admit that I kinda liked the Michael Bay Transformers movie last year. Sure, the script came out of a 7th grader’s writing class in a school for juvenile delinquents. But everything else - the robots, the shots, the acting was tolerable. They’re shiny new casings, however, didn’t remove my archetypal vision of what good and evil are. At 80’s Tees they’ve got the version of Autobot and Decepticon leaders that I’ll always prefer. And right now you can get this fantastic shirt, normally $22, for a very cybertronion friendly $12.01.

Heartbroken Robot Shirt

Heartbroken Robot TShirtValentine’s Day is coming and love is in the geekified air in the offices of Militant Geek! Monday through Thursday I’ll be bringing you the best Geek TShirts that say “I love you… and your brain.”

I really have no idea why artificial intelligence is so hard. As this shirt clearly demonstrates, all you have to do to make Johnny Five come alive is throw a ticker in its chest. Then it will fall in love with that shy, yet attractive girl who eventually leaves with the high school quarterback. At that point it will go into a homicidal rage because -get this- we have given it the capacity to feel but not the understanding to forgive. Which was, incidentally, the plot of Weekend at Bernies 7, I think. (I’ll have to get back to you on that.)

Forlorn robot by way of Threadless.com. For those with reproductive apparatuses of the outer variety this shirt costs $15. It’s $17 if its an innee.

Vote Robot Nixon!

Robot Nixon Geek TShirtMilitantGeek Super Tuesday Special! It takes a very special TShirt to be both geek and political. In one of the most contested elections in a generation Militant Geek highlights some great tees leading up to Super Tuesday this February 5th.

Take the reanimated head of Richard Nixon, put him on some state of the art robotics, and VIOLA! you’ve got Robot Nixon. Sure, he left office in shame because of cut throat tactics. But if we’re going to be at war might as well have a commander in chief that looks the part. Prices range from $16.99 - $27.99 from the CafePress store.

Hat tip to Fashionable Geek.

Incredible Retropolis Tees Depict Past Futures

Retropolis TeesAt MilitantGeek I see a lot of TShirt designs week in and week out. And while most places have one shirt that’s rather witty or clever its rare when I stumble across a store that I fall in love with. Retropolis, though, is one of those newly discovered finds.

The idea is to take the romance and swashbuckling set design of Flash Gordon, channel it through a talented designer, and then press it onto lovely shirts for the world to wear. Items, like “the Volto-Vac Retro Robot” are simply too unique and wonderful not to celebrate. This unique pieces of art will run you $25.99. However, when compared to the $30+ for yesterday’s Wordart piece, its a bargain.

Shirt Recounts Pairs Robot Attack of 1992

Robot Attacks Geek TShirtSo this shirt, available appropriately by Giant Robot, depicts what appears an iconic moment from the great French Robot Wars of 1992. As I’m sure you’ll remember, that conflict was fueled by frustrated escargot automatons toiling under snooty Parisian chefs (redundant, I know). The chaos was finally settled when the humans agree to make regular cheese concessions. And then they all donned flannel and listened to Nirvana. Ah yes, I remember it like yesterday.

Robot in the City is $18 from Giant Robot.

All Hail the Rockbot!

Rockbot TShirtAs hard as it is to believe, the retired circus monkeys and I take an occasional break from scouring the web for the best in geekdom. And, being the faux rock gods that we are, we get our guitar hero going. We even made a rock playing robot to handle some of the harder songs (Dragonforce, I’m looking in your dexterous direction). Imagine our surprise when we discovered that John Nissen had captured our coolness in this Zazzle store shirt.

Or maybe its just a robot playing guitar. But a plastic guitar slinger can dream, can’t they?
