That’s right: from now till February all orders over $15 to the US and Canada don’t have to pay a single cent toward physical transport. Just make sure you use the code FREESHIPPING07 on checkout.

In February we’re giving the store a much needed enema; make sure you get you pick up that hat or shirt that you had your eye on because it may not make it into our spring lineup.

You can get started with the Militant Geek T-Shirt Shop.

Excessive Linking Rewarded

At the end of last week, when the readership numbers normally take a nose dive, we at Militant Geek had the pleasant surprise of being linked to by the esteemed Valleywag (which, in Internet terms, is like getting props from the National Enquirer on your muckraking). We can only humbly accept this form of praise and suck in a deep, deep breath - it’s all downhill from here, baby.

TShirt Shop Broken; We’re Morons

When the technical staff consists of geriatric retired circus monkeys and the homeless guy you pay in socks one should just expect that certain liberties will be taken with the website. ‘Working’ and ‘Correctly’ are not guaranteed to live on in blissful union.

We’re working on it and we’ll let you know when we’ve prepared the next round of embarrassment. Ok, the shop links should work (mostly) now. If you see any problems let us know.

New TShirt Store Layout

In between bouts of forced corporate holiday festivity we at Militant Geek actually try to get some work done. Case in point: the new Militant Geek Tee Shirt Store Layout. Hopefully the new spread will be easier to navigate for all involved.

Now back to hiding in the copy room as our co-workers awkwardly try to dance to Burl Ives (shudder).

New Poll: Who Needs to Be Mocked?

Microsoft parody logo - MicroscoffEvery once and awhile we need to step back from scooping the sarcasm and make sure that we’re still on target. It’s easy to be cynical about anything these days. Because of that its important that the Militant Geek crew surveys just where the ire lies. What should our next T-Shirt be about? Who needs to be taken down a peg? Vote in our poll (to the right) and help us decide just who gets their next foible on a Militant Geek Tee.

Friendster; Not So Friendly

Friendster LogoCall us late to the party but Militant Geek just read about Friendster and the greed therein (article is behind a NYTimes walled garden but Michael Arrington does do a wrap up). There are so many slights I’m not even sure where to start.

Friendster turned down a $30 million buyout offer from Google in 2003.

Everything went downhill from there.

Key points of failure seem to be a disastrous initial architecture that just couldn’t scale, a succession of high profile but out of touch CEOs (Tim Koogle, then Scott Sassa, then Taek Kwan), infighting at the executive level (particularly between the VP Product and VP Engineering) and a general level of arrogance at the board and executive level. No one is spared in the article, including Kleiner Perkins Partner John Doerr and former partner Russ Siegelman.

Hmmm…. Fiendster? Fraudster? Greedster? Too many options… Which is why it would make a great poll! Take a moment and vote for the most appropriate name for everyone’s favorite social networking also-ran.

Google Wins, New Poll, New Shirt!

Well, when it comes to masked Mexican steel cage matches El Muchachos Del Google reign supreme. Bill has slunk off to spend another billion of Buffett’s money, Larry’s aloofness got so large he is now floating somewhere in the rafters, and Steve is pacing the ring like it was a Mac conference shouting how he was ‘Insanely Great’. Mios Dio! Now we have to make a shirt. While the concept of the four of them in Mexican wrestling masks seemed funny now I actually have to render the non sequitur.

There’s a new poll up and this time I’ve made sure each would conceptually be doable. Vote for your favorite idea. Voting on the newest design will close on Monday, September 25 so make sure to vote now!

Web 2.0 SurveyFinally, the winner of Poll #1, How to Mock a Bubble is now available in the MilitantGeek store. The ‘Web 2.0′ Survey has a lovely ‘beta’ badge, wet floor effect, and Arial Rounded Bold (the font of choice for a softer, more squeezably soft bubble). Get your shirt today before the bubble (and your chance to express moral superiority) goes all Ben Affleck!

New Poll: Steel Cage Geek Match

You know you want it - your favorite (and/or hated) technology personalities duking it out. A match where those measured leaders of geekdom finally display the kind of machismo seen in mating elephant seals. What would happen if they were in a cage match? With mexican wrestling masks? And maybe sidekicks? Bill Gates! Larry Ellison! Steve Jobs! The two headed Brin-Page GMonster! Leave your comments of how the smack down goes and leave your vote in the poll!

The poll for the fate of Militant Geek’s next reader-participant shirt runs until this Wednesday, September 20th.
